MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) vests are great. The official US Gov't ones are made with 1000denier nylon and are very durable. The main part of the vest is a nylon mesh which allows airflow so you don't fry when it gets hot.

The vest I got was the MOLLE v1 vest. They are semi-current gen. Same tech, but being phased out in favor of the v2. The MOLLE vest isn't used by all forces. The Marines for instance use the Interceptor vest which has MOLLE/PALS webbing on the front, but is also a plate carrier (body armor). It only comes in woodland.

Attaching the MOLLE v1 vest together requires minimal effort. It's pretty self explanatory just looking at it. It's fully adjustable for large and small people. It's comfortable and extremely affordable. Not only that but you can mount different items to it and configure it the way you like it. Pouches normally run about $20 a piece. The vest itself can be had for about $30 + $10 shipping on eBay. It's a very durable comfortable and useable vest. It also has a longer lifespan because of its modular design.
